“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”

82% burns, losing my dream job in a renowned company, from being in love to going back to being single again – I could have been completely lost but I knew it’s easy to be bogged down in the crap that steps on you sometimes but one has to see the proverbial open window to each closed door. Storms have the innate ability to wear us down, but these miseries also allow us to view the amazing positivities circling our life.

Things happen for a reason. You can either cry and complain or you can figure out your new course of action and navigate your way in that direction. Many factors like the end of a relationship, loss of a loved one, getting fired etc can turn out to be life-altering events and can attribute significant stress in your life but many a time we will notice that in life’s greatest miseries comes infinite clarity.

It is very important to find the good stuff in life. Look out for the glass half full moments that make up your mundane everyday life. In other words, appreciate what life is offering to you on a daily basis. Always remember the sad reality of life i.e. the short amount of time that we all have on earth. Appreciate the people around you and the things you are blessed to have. Tomorrow is not always guaranteed. Forget the things that pull you down as only then can you find your silver linings and appreciate everything you are lucky to have.

Having said that, no matter how much I preach, everyone does have their bad days and good days and sometimes one can really get down on themselves when things are not going right. You might end up saying a lot of “Why me s” to yourself and personally assume that you are the only one to blame for all that is happening. Logically even though you know this isn’t true but in the heat of the matter, self-blame seems to be the best option. The real challenge now is to control your emotions and once you do that, everything looks hunky-dory again.

Another way to look for the silver lining is to start living in the present. Breathe deeply and take one day at a time, without being over-anxious about forthcoming situations. Ask yourself if the current situation will even matter in a year from now. Remind yourself that no one is perfect and even though life is throwing challenges at you, there’s always a chance to learn something new. Make yourself understand that no situation is permanent and tough times shall pass soon. A ‘go for it’ attitude will help you to wriggle out of the toughest moments. Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.

Those who know me say that I have a natural ability to always see the positive in difficult times. But, I do tend to become agitated when the going gets tough and situations come crashing down on me. Still, I’ve always managed to pick myself up, dust myself off and embrace life with a new sense of being.
